The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ?

On the day that Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, elderly Daisy Williams (nee Fuller) is on her deathbed in a New Orleans hospital. At her side is her adult daughter, Caroline. Daisy asks Caroline to read to her aloud the diary of Daisy’s lifelong friend, Benjamin Button. Benjamin’s diary recounts his entire extraordinary life, the primary unusual aspect of which was his aging backwards, being diagnosed with several aging diseases at birth and thus given little chance of survival, but who does survive and gets younger with time. Abandoned by his biological father, Thomas Button, after Benjamin’s biological mother died in childbirth, Benjamin was raised by Queenie, a black woman and caregiver at a seniors home. Daisy’s grandmother was a resident at that home, which is where she first met Benjamin. Although separated through the years, Daisy and Benjamin remain in contact throughout their lives, reconnecting in their forties when in age they finally match up. Some of the revelations in Benjamin’s diary are difficult for Caroline to read, especially as it relates to the time past this reconnection between Benjamin and Daisy, when Daisy gets older and Benjamin grows younger into his childhood years.

”Många lantbrukare är upprörda efter debattören Fredrik Segerfeldts uttalanden i tv4:s nyhetsmorgon där han menade att det inte finns några skäl att köpa svenskt kött och att det egentligen inte behövs några lantbrukare i Sverige…

– Det finns en otäck nationalistisk syn på det här med jordbruk, säger han och fortsätter: – Jag köper aldrig svenskt kött bara för att jag retar mig på mig på det här med ”köp svenskt kött”, varför skulle jag göra det?…Folk dör väl inte av antibiotikaresistens i resten av världen heller”

Segerfeldt argumenterar mot stöd till jordbruket under torkan: ”Det svenska jordbruket är ett starkt särintresse som har varit skickligt på att bygga upp en falsk bild av det nödvändiga i den egna existensen. Dessutom präglas debatten av vaga känslor av nationalism och nostalgi. Sanningen är att lantbruket är en genomsubventionerad industri som lever på andras bekostnad”

Fredrik Segerfeldt är en ideologisk inspiration för Stureplanscentern, exempelvis när Centerns migrationspolitiska talperson delade ut hans skrift om öppna gränser till hela riksdagsgruppen. Staffan Danielsson som är en företrädare för den motsatta mer traditionella landbrukarfalangen är kritiskt:

”Den ultraliberale jordbruksexperten @segerfeldt föreslår att Sverige importerar sin mat från Norge, som redan importerar hälften av allt man själva äter, samt från Colombia som exporterar kaffe och bananer och använder mycket kemiska bekämpningsmedel. Genialt, i sanning!”

Det finns naturligtivs många som anser att jordbruket ska avregleras och få minskat stöd. Segerfeldt är går dock till andra extremen och avfärdar lättvindigt seriösa argument som att inhemsk matproduktion behövs i händelse av kris. Han använder strawman att även jordbrukets insatsvaror skulle drabbas, men det är naturligtivs bättre med en ansträngd jordbruk under krigsblockad än ingen matproduktion alls och masssvält.

Segerfeldt har som reaktion på konservatism gått till den andra extremen och är irrationellt fientlig mot allt nationen representerar. Vi har för mycket av denna ungdomsförbundsradikalism som man uppmanar unga att känslosamt ta ställning för radikala experiment utan att tänka igenom konsekvenserna i stället för evidensdriven liberalism.

Slut på semester, end of holiday !

Nu var den härliga semestern slut, tillbaka till jobbet, ett helt år till nästa fyra veckors ledighet.

Now the glorious holiday was over, back to work, a whole year to the next four weeks of leave.

På väg till det helt oundvikliga, på en parkeringsplats innan Eksjö tar ett par riktigt djupa andetag innan man kastar sig in i hetluften och alla konflikter.

On the way to the completely inevitable, in a parking lot before Eksjö takes a couple of really deep breaths before throwing themselves into the hot air and all the conflicts.

Collaborative projects are an enormous undertaking even in the digital age where file sharing eases the difficulty of getting guest musicians on an album. If there’s one artist who understands time and effort, it’s Ghost‘s Tobias Forge, who has been the band’s visionary and chief writer. Even with all of the time Ghost occupies, he’s revealed another project could potentially surface.

Speaking with 100.5 The KATT (audio below), Forge explained that he has things mapped out years in advance and even had the themes for the new album, Prequelle, developed three or four years ago. “And then I have another project at the end of that tunnel that might or might not materialize,” he added. “It’s a little bit of a side thing that takes a ton of collaboration and many stars aligning and that’s been in the works for years. So we will see if that happens, but that is as far as I can see right now.”
